The last few weeks made one thing clear: New York isn't just talking about physical AI, it's shipping it. Here's what happened, what's next, and who's hiring. UPCOMING EVENTS Robots That Care Summit: Wed, Oct 21 · 6:00–9:00 PM · Newlab Brooklyn The first quarterly gathering for the people putting care robots to work, co-hosted with Norbert Health, Wandercraft, Newlab and One Health Collective. Keynotes from Alexandre Winter (Norbert Health) and Matthieu Masselin (Wandercraft), then a panel with Geeta Nastasi (Northwell), Greg Olsen (NYSOFA), Teddy Haggerty (Robostore) and Ash Cleary (LDV Capital). Stay for the "bot-tail hour" demos. Request to join: https://luma.com/8fobi9xw Physical AI & Robotics Developer Workshop with Intel: Tue, Nov 3 · 11:00 AM–6:00 PM · Civic Hall, 124 E 14th St A full day for robotics developers and technical founders: Intel's robotics platform, a technical deep dive, and a three-hour hands-on lab on preconfigured systems with Intel engineers in the room. Lunch included. Bring a laptop. Request to join: https://luma.com/newyork-6qse IN CASE YOU MISSED IT Embodied AI NYC at ZeroSpace (Oct 5): standing room only, with about 400 builders, founders and investors in one room. AI with Presence: The Choreography of Shared Space (Oct 13): with frog and Capgemini's Applied Innovation Exchange, Inna Lobel (frog), Josh Merel (Fauna Robotics) and Wendy Ju (Cornell Tech) took on how robots should move through our streets, stores, hotels and hospitals. Thank you to everyone who packed the room at 79 Fifth. INDUSTRY PERSPECTIVE: THE DEPLOYMENT ERA Look at this month's raises and you'll see a pattern. Investors aren't paying for demos anymore. They're paying for robots already working on real floors. Ultra's OP1 has packed 500,000+ orders. Destro is coordinating mixed fleets in live warehouses. Human Friendly Robotics signed a $4M contract for robots that tile. That's the opening for New York. We have the customers (logistics, healthcare, construction, retail), the universities (Columbia, Cornell Tech, NYU, Stevens) and, more and more, the capital. What's still missing is alignment: getting opportunity in front of the builders who can use it. That's the job NYR exists to do, and why every event we run puts operators, founders and investors in the same room. We want this technology to make us more human, not less. In care, that means robots taking on protocol-driven work so clinicians get time back with patients. Come argue with us about it on Oct 21. SHOUTOUTS - Ultra (Brooklyn): $50M Series A led by Framework Ventures with Y Combinator, $62M total, plus a Physical Intelligence partnership. Congrats, Jon Miller Schwartz and team. - Tangent Robotics (NYC): $4.5M pre-seed led by Fly Ventures and Toyota Ventures for this Columbia spinout giving robot hands fine motor skills. - Destro AI (Brooklyn): $8M seed for MothershipOS, one brain for multi-vendor robot fleets. - Human Friendly Robotics (Morganville, NJ): a $4M contract to put its tiling robot to work. - Innodata (NJ): a new motion-capture lab built with Vicon to train humanoids.
